I absolutely love Samosas! They are one of my absolute favorite Indian foods, and I could eat them everyday. I always thought that I'd never be able to make them, but never say never. I eventually looked st how they were made, and was surprised by how easy they were! I hope you will try them out as well (:

INGREDIENTS FOR DOUGH:

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup of oil (I used grape seed oil. You can use canola)

  • Water

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING:

  • 4 medium sized potatoes

  • 1 medium sized yellow onion

  • 1 cup of green peas

  • 1 tablespoon of ginger

  • 4 cloves of garlic

  • 1 tablespoon of garam masala

  • 1 tablespoon of coriander

  • 1 tablespoon of cumin

  • 2 tablespoons of curry

  • Sat to taste

  • Pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

  • Let's make the dough first. Place flour, salt, and oil in a mixing bowl. I liked to use my hands to mix everything. Now add some water until your dough comes together. Add a tablespoon at a time. Set dough aside.

  • Place the four potatoes on a plate. Take a fork and poke it a few times. Place a kitchen towel on the potatoes and put them in the microwave for about 7 minutes or until they are soft

  • Take the potatoes out of the microwave and let them cool down

  • Place oil in pan. I used a tablespoon of mustard oil and added a smaller amount of grape seed oil

  • Sautée onions and add in garlic and ginger on medium heat

  • Add in all the spices

  • Take the potatoes and chop them in bite sized pieces and add it to the pan

  • Make sure to coat the potatoes well with the spices

  • Set aside the filling

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

  • Take the dough and rip off chunks of it, I ended up with about 5 medium sized chunks. Roll them in your hands until they are smooth balls

  • Take a rolling pin and flatten them out in circles

  • Cut them in half and place one half down. Take one of the sharp corners and fold it near to the other side, but not all the way. Fold the other sharp corner till the space is filled. Pinch the dough together to make sure the filling doesn't spill out. You should have a triangle shaped dough

  • Take the triangle pastry in your hand and fill it to your liking. Pinch the bottom together

  • Place the Samosas on a baking pan with a baking sheet.

  • Spread a small amount of grape seed oil in Samosas

  • Bake them for 20 minutes or until they are browned on the corners

  • Enjoy and be obsessed!
